Project Description
We are planning to launch the TB-SPIRIT study (TB Survivors Providing Interventions to Reduce the Impact of Tuberculosis) which aims to measure the impact of person-centered health assessments and management of non-TB conditions among people with TB.
Scope of Work
The student would be expected to work with research staff from Johns Hopkins India and local partner institutions to map and characterize services available to people with TB who are also affected by non-TB conditions (NTC). We are interested in understanding NTC screening procedures and referral pathways in the standard of care both at TB diagnosis and end of TB treatment. We are also interested in mapping services and community spaces (e.g. gyms, parks) available to support pulmonary rehabilitation after TB treatment. To collect this data, the student will conduct key informant interviews with TB clinicians, outreach workers, and TB survivors who have been trained as peer support providers. This work will require travel from our research headquarters in Pune, Maharashtra, India to other sites where we have partnerships and ongoing projects (e.g. Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Karnataka).
The professional environment is...
A well-established research site working with local partners and India’s National TB Program to optimize services for vulnerable populations. Our team is highly collaborative! The lead in Pune, Dr. Vidya Mave, has extensive experience working with students and will be available to provide mentorship on the ground as well.
