Project Description

Approximately 30% of people living with HIV and initiating antiretroviral therapy have advanced HIV disease (AHD) with a CD4 count <200. The proportion with AHD is higher among hospitalized people living with HIV and mortality during and after hospitalization remains high. The WHO has a specific set of recommended interventions for all people living with HIV who are hospitalized with the goal of reducing in and post-hospital mortality. However actual description of implementation is limited. The specific GHEFP is nested within ongoing projects with the focus on understanding the delivery of AHD interventions within the hospital setting including testing for HIV, testing for TB, testing for cryptococcoses, etc. The GHEFP will have primary responsibility for measuring, mapping, and describing in-hospital AHD intervention delivery. This will provide a foundation in preparation for future work regarding AHD service delivery and research.
