Medical student travel grants are available to Johns Hopkins medical students to facilitate clinical elective rotations, or research/project participation in low- and middle-income countries. We encourage applications from medical students with interests in global health.
Elective rotations may be clinical, observation focused, or research-based in nature. If participating in clinical care, it should be within the limitations established for the student’s level of training and under the direct supervision of a local preceptor. Participation in conducting research must be IRB approved.
In addition to the student’s proposed activities, the Center for Global Health will provide a list of required activities that will complement the immersive experience and help the students to grow in their global health skills including networking and self reflection activities.
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to all medical students (MS1, MS2, MS3, and MS4) sponsored by the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine who are able to spend a minimum of 4 weeks on site. Applicants must identify a Hopkins faculty member who will provide oversight either virtually or on-site, as well as a local on-site supervisor for clinical and research activities.
Only travel to low and middle-income countries is eligible.
Restrictions:
- Students who will be completing their training prior to their travel end date are not eligible to apply.
- Previous recipients of CGH travel grants cannot apply for this award unless their previous award occurred while they were in another training program, e.g., School of Public Health
- Funds must be used within one year of the anticipated award date.
- Applicants may not submit applications for travel already underway at the time of application or travel already completed.
